Shooting a model train? Which kind? There’s O at 1:48 scale, S at 1:64 scale, OO at 1:75 scale, HO at 1:86 scale, and TT at 1:120 scale (hint: the bigger the better for shooting film).

Doing the math for standard 24fps and for a 1/48 scale model, the camera speed increases by a factor of 7, which means the adjusted operating speed of camera will need to be 168fps. Now, having a camera that goes that fast is a different story…

But even more importantly, when shooting miniatures, your best bet is to go no smaller than 1:24 scale, if at all possible. Again, the bigger the model, the better off your shoot will be…
