High Definition & Film Comparison!
By Frey | March 20, 2007
I’ve been waiting for this one to get a little more updated, but what the heck. I can’t wait anymore. News is news, right?
The comparison was between two film stocks and the real HD cameras (not the smaller prosumer HD/HDV cameras, although I’d liked to have seen at least the Canon XLH1 or the JVC GY-HD110U in there, since either could be fitted with Zeiss glass). Compared were the Sony F900R & F950, the Thomson Grass Valley Viper, the Panasonic Varicam, the Dalsa origin, the Panavision Genesis, the ARRI D20, the Silicon Imaging SI-2K MINI, as well as the Modula HD (anyone have any info on this rig?). Up to bat for film were the two kodak stocks: 7212 and 7229 (for those that don’t know, the 72xx stocks are 16mm - 52xx are 35mm). Both stocks were scanned on a Spirit 4K.
