Screening for “Deadlands: The Rising” filmed locally in MD

Deadlands: The Rising

DEADLANDS: The Rising is the feature film and directorial debut of Writer/Director and editor Gary Ugarek and is now ready to be unleashed on the public. Filmed in Baltimore, Gaithersburg, and Pasadena, MD, the film spans a 24 hour period during a zombie apocalypse and the aftermath the dead leave behind. While no easy task to jump in headfirst into a feature film, the filmmakers managed to accomplish quite a bit given their very meager budget of $10,000 USD. They are happy the film has been a success critically and even happier ZED fans around the globe are enjoying the film.

Come to a screening of the film this Saturday, April 14th at the Hagerstown 10 theater from 9pm-12am. Ticket prices are $7.00 whether you buy tickets online or at the door. So far, Deadlands has broken the theaters’ record for online ticket sales for a premiere screening event. The last record holder was the film Chainsaw Sally when it screened in Feb 2007. If you buy tickets online to help raise the record higher, go to www.hagerstown10.com and click online tickets.

Members of the Deadlands Make-Up FX team will be on hand at the theater doing zombie make-up on patrons for a small fee. Scott Simpson and Christian Quarantillo will be on hand Saturday from about 3pm until the end of the premiere doing zombie make-up FX.

There is a best zombie costume contest. The patron showing up with the best zombie costume wins $100.00 (Anyone made into a zombie by the FX team at the theater is not eligbible to participate in the contest.)

The screening is also benefitting the family of Daryl Leake. Daryl passed away on 30Mar2007 and to help his family Heavenly Balloons will be present to sell balloons for a balloon release which will follow the screening. I believe each balloon is $1.00 (don’t quote me on this, but it is a donation event and proceeds go to his surviving family)

The theater is allowing everyone to BYOB (You must be 21 and you will be carded). If you BYOB, it must be kept in the theater (auditorium 2) and it cannot come out into the lobby.

Come on down, have some fun and enjoy the night. The director will also be making a special announcement saturday night as well.
