Since it’s been slow around here the past few weeks, I’m going to take a different approach and open things up a bit to allow for more information to flow thru here – especially related to film festivals around the world.
VERY SHORT MOVIES
FILM FESTIVAL
Hollywood, California – USA
March 14 to 15, 2008
In the Spotlight this week is the VERY SHORT MOVIES FILM FESTIVAL (VSM), fostering careers of emerging filmmakers and celebrating the art of short filmmaking in Hollywood, California. VSM shorts (30 minutes or less) are exhibited at the historic Egyptian Theater, a major Hollywood landmark and the permanent home of the American Cinematheque.
Filmmakers from all corners of the globe gather at VSM where they meet and mingle with industry professionals, and attend special events such as the Opening Night Gala and the Awards Ceremony. Past VSM attendees have gained both agency and distribution deals as a result of the Festival’s introductions and heavy promotional efforts. Some VSM filmmakers also received a major honor when members of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences who attended the Festival encouraged them to submit their films for Oscar qualification.
VSM filmmakers compete to win cash prizes totaling $5,000 USD; a $2,000 USD prize is awarded to the Jury Award winner, and a $500 USD award will be given to the winners of each category of competition. Other in-kind prizes that are currently in the works and are pending sponsorship include camera packages, post-production services and more. Additionally, the Festival aims to continue providing paid transportation and complimentary or discounted lodging for select filmmakers.
