Film & Photo Contest Here on MarylandFilms.com!!!

We realize this is April 1st, but this is not an April Fool’s joke:
For all those fun and exciting people that enjoy sharing their photography, film or video, narrative audio program (or audio podcast), or other visual and/or auditory type of multimedia art, we’ve decided to hold an online film and photo contest here on MarylandFilms.com!

The first of the month (April 1st) starts the submissions (did we mention that submissions are free?). The end of the month marks (April 30th) the end of submissions. We’ll take a week to look everything over and post the winners.

You can submit to one of the following categories, but they have to be works that are online:
1) A Photograph
2) A Film or Video
3) A Narrative Audio Program
4) Other Visual/Auditory Work (podcast, drawing, comic or cartoon strip, etc.)

NOTE: DO NOT submit the work itself; only submit a link to the work.

You may be asking, what are the rules? They are really easy:

1. You MUST have created the work, or at least been a major player in the team that created the work.
2. You MUST own the copyright of the work (ie., you must own the work you submit).
3. You must supply a direct link to the work (e.g., if it’s on YouTube or flickr, you must supply a direct link to the video itself, not a link to the page it is on) and the work must be online.
4. You must give a quick description of what you are submitting. For instance, if it’s a photograph of the night sky, then the description might be as follows: Category: Photograph. Long exposure photograph of the night sky over Baltimore, MD. EXIF: Focal Length 52mm, F3.5, Exp. 1/60, ISO 800. Photographer: Allan Smithee.
   If it is a video shot in various places, the description might be as follows: Category: film/video. 13 minute short documentary film about the plight of the box turtle. Director: Allan Smithee. DP: John Smithee. Editor: Violet Smithee. Produced by: Allan Smithee Productions.
5. You must be a registered user of MarylandFilms.com, since it’s the only way to submit something thru the system (not a member? Then Sign up here). Don’t worry – we will not give out your address to anyone.
6. Unless there has been a significant change in the work, you can only submit the work to MarylandFilms.com once a year (throwing this out, just in case we decide to do another contest this year).
7. That’s it. No other rules.

I’ll say this again: DO NOT submit the work itself. Only submit a link to the work.

It doesn’t matter where in the world you are located, or where the work was created. We’ll take submissions from Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, DC,  and the rest of the Mid-Atlantic Region, as well as from California, Canada, Europe, Australia, or Asia. That’s the beauty of the Internet!

Prizes: We don’t have any sponsorship. It’s not that we don’t want sponsorship, we just haven’t asked for any – we’re doing this because we love film, photography, and other multimedia art. So the prize you’ll get is the camaraderie, the ability to share your work with others, and the recognition of winning (and when your work has won, you can tell your friends, tell your family, and especially tell the world!).

One last thing: If you can’t get it in this month, don’t fret – we’re thinking that this could turn into a monthly contest, so get it ready and submit it next month!
