Canon Powershot vs Nikon Coolpix
OK, why restrain yourself? You know you want one or the other. You’ve been sitting on that old digital camera of yours thinking to yourself, “I don’t really need a nice new Canon Powershot or Nikon Coolpix, just yet.” But you do. That trip your going on this weekend NEEDS you to take some good photographs to remember yourself and your family/friends by. A digital phone can grab a few pics – but let’s face it, those phones aren’t real cameras. Are they?
Now is the time to grab a Canon Powershot or Nikon Coolpix, and here’s a few of the reasons why:
At this point in the game, you can pick up a Nikon Coolpix L22 for a darned good price on Amazon. Those 12 megapixels will easily give you prints as large as 16″ x 20″ (and that’s looking at it with a microscope). It also has movie mode – so you can shoot video of your friends and family and post them to facebook (where everyone can view them and enjoy). It can also help to stabilize your images, as well as help you in shooting portraits of your family (or the family dog). All-in-all, the Nikon Coolpix
is a good deal.
But wait, there’s competition! The Canon PowerShot is probably the Nikon Coolpix’s biggest competitor and Canon’s not laying down waiting for the world to pass it by while Nikon reigns supreme. You can pick up a Canon PowerShot SD780IS
from Amazon for quite a good deal as well. It does a slightly larger 12.1-megapixel image, which, as stated above, gives you the detail you need for large prints. It also does High Definition movie shooting (which is really cool in my book). Another thing to like is its face detection feature. I didn’t think it was all that important at first, but have since found that face detection is not something to laugh at. To get perfect focus when people are throwing themselves around (especially children), face detection is a must. Without it, you’re chasing them around taking out-of-focus shot after out-of-focus shot. Face detection is definitely worth it.
The Canon is a little more expensive, but the Nikon offers some nice features. The good news is that you can’t go wrong with either.

Although I do not have experience with powershot camera I can say that nikon coolpix p90 is a complete camera for general users. I bought it few months back and I couldn’t be more satisfied.
