Are any of you good folks Doctor Who fans? I’ve been enjoying Doctor Who for many years (we won’t say how many) and I’m glad BBC America (and sometimes the SyFy channel) bring Doctor Who to those of us on this side of the Atlantic. Since Doctor Who was brought back in 2005, we’ve been through 3 different faces of the Doctor with Christopher Eccleston in 2005, David Tennant from 2005-2010, and most recently Matt Smith.
If you’ve been watching the latest season, with Matt Smith, you may have been waiting for that one episode to “bring you back in” to the Doctor. For me, that episode was “Amy’s Choice”. I thought Amy’s Choice had some exceptionally good writing; very “Doctor Who” in style. Introducing the Dream Lord was a great way to get the Doctor to figure things out in his very own Doctor fashion (which is similar to Sherlock Holmes). I enjoyed the well-written humor, including ...

OK, after much debate about it – I finally implemented a new look for MarylandFilms.com. The older version of the site looked good, but was somewhat hard to navigate. This version is cleaner and hopefully easier to get around…
I’ll be changing a few more things over the next couple of days to make the site operate and look even better. If you have an issue or want to see something changed, in the meantime, please let me know!

Along with the new layout, it seems it’s time for a few other things to change as well – namely the sites mission. MarylandFilms.com has always been about independent film and acting news (and, more recently, photography news), with a few helpful tips and other great film & acting information here and there. While the format was okay, it was not optimal…
So, as stated above, MarylandFilms.com is changing it’s focus to be more of a film and photography blog. This means there will be more information written for everyone – and that information will be fresh. Of course, if you have important film news I will still try to make sure it gets passed on to the readers, but it’s no longer the main focus of this blog.
So, you might be asking yourself, what’s the blog about then? The short answer: Sharing helpful tips and other great information with the ...

Want to shoot film? It has that look and feel that video still can’t attain (and no, the RED still can’t handle the highlights like film can). So if you are looking to purchase a 35mm cinema rig, my friend Rafael Pankrutau, located in Belarus, has added to his sales list a few more professional 35mm cameras that look quite enticing.
A background on Rafael: He’s been selling cinema gear for years and I’ve never had an issue buying from him. More importantly, Raf has always been well liked by the discussion list on Konvas.org for his honest salesmanship. He truly is a gentleman.
Want to shoot film and have the money? Then what are you waiting for – Get one (especially that sweet looking Kinor 35H!):

BTW: There’s no financial gain for me in posting this – just passing on the info. But if you purchase one of the cameras, please let ...

We realize this is April 1st, but this is not an April Fool’s joke:
For all those fun and exciting people that enjoy sharing their photography, film or video, narrative audio program (or audio podcast), or other visual and/or auditory type of multimedia art, we’ve decided to hold an online film and photo contest here on MarylandFilms.com!
The first of the month (April 1st) starts the submissions (did we mention that submissions are free?). The end of the month marks (April 30th) the end of submissions. We’ll take a week to look everything over and post the winners.
You can submit to one of the following categories, but they have to be works that are online:
1) A Photograph
2) A Film or Video
3) A Narrative Audio Program
4) Other Visual/Auditory Work (podcast, drawing, comic or cartoon strip, etc.)
NOTE: DO NOT submit the work itself; only submit a link to the work.
You may be asking, what ...
