Several days ago, I downloaded Adobe’s trial version of Lightroom 3, which allows you to import your video files from your camera.
To get the video on the computer, it was as simple as taking out the CF card, plugging it in, and clicking on import once Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 popped up. Easy. The video remains archived in Lightroom’s library, so I can view the video clips.
Unfortunately, there are a few issues. First, it does not allow you to do any editing of that video (at least my H.264 files from the Canon – not sure if it allows other video clips to be edited or not). It also does not allow you to right click and choose to open with another Adobe Program. It also doesn’t allow you to play the video in the small thumbnail window, which I think is also quite unfortunate.
But at least it’s a good ...

A friend emailed to ask what editing system I’d recommend that would do 500Mb a second for his editing/post-production workflow. I figured I’d share my answer with you, the MarylandFilms.com readers as well:
I’m not sure exactly, as it really depends on several things. But, I’d have to say you’d want a bare minimum of at least a dual-core 2.5GHz system, 8GBs of RAM, and a fast RAID.
Honestly, if you are doing HD work, you want a bare minimum of a quad-core 3GHz machine to do any ‘real’ work. Anything less and you’ll be waiting on render times so long you’ll be an old man before you get your first cut finished… Currently, I’m running an 8-core 3GHz system and I find it’s too slow for all of my needs.
As for RAID systems, go with a SATA RAID setup like this and you can’t go wrong:
4 x 1TB SATA drives (or ...

Production Crew Positions needed for Star Wipe Films feature film in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. for 3-4 weeks, starting August.
Production crew positions available for Baltimore area feature film!
After the successful completion of the short film “Godfather Death,” (www.starwipefilms.com/godfatherdeathmovie.html) Star Wipe Films, in association with an independent action film producer, is currently accepting applications for essential crew positions. Production is tentatively scheduled for a 3-4 week shoot during late August and early September 2008.
Pay: Pay is negotiable based on experience and position, but volunteers are preferred. Travel reimbursement is available, and will be paid weekly.
Night Shoots: A majority of the film calls for night shooting, with both interior and exterior locations.
Part Time Crew: Since we are hoping for volunteer support from the film community, we realize that a 3-4 week commitment is unlikely. If you would like to help out on set in order to gain ...
